Impact Stories on Ending Violence against Women - Specialised Prosecution
The public prosecution, by investigating and litigating violence against women crimes, plays a pivotal role to ensure protection and empowerment of women and girls survivors of violence. Confronted to outdated laws and inadequate legislation on domestic violence, as well as family and community pressure on women to withdraw their claims, prosecutors face often great challenges in bringing cases to a fair outcome to victims. Since 2013, UN Women and the Attorney General Office have been working together to strengthen the capacity of specialised prosecutors to handle violence against women cases and towards the institutionalisation of a specialised prosecution on violence against women crimes.
