UN Women was established to enhance and thus complement the efforts of the UN system as a whole to work towards gender equality and women’s empowerment. Through its mandate, UN Women leads, promotes and coordinates efforts to advance the full realization of women’s rights and opportunities. The UN Women office in the occupied Palestinian territory engages in increasing the accountability of the United Nations system here to gender equality and women’s empowerment commitments. Towards this purpose, UN Women works with the UN Inter-Agency Gender Task Force as much as in partnership with UN sister agencies to support gender mainstreaming efforts of individual agencies and achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment in humanitarian, development and political spheres of the United Nations' in the occupied Palestinian territory.
