Voices from Gaza: Sujoud's Story
Date:
Sujoud Hamdan, a 30-year-old mother from northern Gaza, has faced unimaginable hardships with her husband and two young sons, Loai (6) and Yousef (3). Since the war began, they have been displaced three times, each move a desperate search for safety amid relentless airstrikes, tank shells, and sniper fire.
After receiving evacuation orders, Sujoud and her family left everything behind, carrying only a few clothes for their children. On 24 October, they set out at 9:00 am, reaching Al Zawayda in southern Gaza by 5:30 pm. Along the way, they witnessed horrors—lifeless bodies, destruction, and constant reminders of fear and death. Instructions were clear: don’t bend down, don’t pick up anything, even if your child falls—any hesitation could lead to death.
Though they found temporary shelter in a family's tent, they must relocate before winter.
In North Gaza, lives hang in the balance as women, children, and families face unimaginable threats. Hospitals are targeted, shelters destroyed, and families torn apart—forced to flee, starved to death, only to face more danger. Men and boys are taken by force, leaving countless women and children vulnerable and alone.
This disregard for humanity and the laws of war must end.
